  1. Cooperative learning and group work are two different things. To make students cooperate, it is not enough to put students together in groups. It is important to create a positive dependency between group members, they can only finish the work sucessfully together. Students need to have a supportive interaction between the group members, something that during group work is not commonly seen. Cooperative learning is both individual and group responsibility, it doesn't mean the one will own the group. Further, students need to learn how to communicate in an appropriate way in small groups, by being aware to keep their voices down and listening to all of the members. One of the crucial parts of cooperative learning is the assessment of the group work.

  2. In my opinion we could say that the former does not guarantee the latter. For the group production is actually beneficial for learning, it is necessary that the educational intervention consider a number of relevant in order to achieve that goal or objective possible variables.
The proposed cooperative work, understand cooperation as a partnership between people who seek mutual aid while seeking joint activities, so that they can learn from each other. Cooperative Learning is characterized by a behavior based on cooperation, in a cooperative incentive structure, work and motivations, which necessarily involves creating a positive interdependence in the student-student and student-teacher interaction, on individual assessment and interpersonal use when acting on small group’s skill.
Group work allows students to come together, support each other, they have more will, more and getting less tiring ... and that individual efforts articulated in cooperative group gain strength.

  3. Group work and cooperative learning are world´s apart terms. Imagine a teacher assigning a group project, teachers are expecting the entire group to work, where one will become the leader, others the secondary contributors and at least one of them will do nothing, they all will be graded equally for non-leveled efforts. That´s group work. Do all students learn at the same level or fulfill the same expectations? No.On the other hand, cooperative learning embrace students in structured-based activities in which each student have the same opportunity to participate, to infer, to research and the voice of all in the group is listened. Cooperative learning is also helpful in keeping students focused on the topics, encouraging them to go further when the topic is interesting enough, students always go for more.

  4. Cooperative learning is a successful teaching strategy in which small groups, between two and six students, with different levels of ability use a variety of learning activities to improve their understanding of a subject as their common goal. Each member of a team is responsible not only for learning what is taught but also for helping their other teammates learn their information as well. For cooperative learning to be successful the teacher and students (in their groups) must all have a role to play.
Cooperative learning research results include improved academic achievement, improved behavior and attendance, increased self-confidence and motivation, and increased liking of school and classmates.

  5. Cooperative learning is a structured way to use small groups to improve student learning. Students are given an assignment, and they work together to accomplish this task. Each individual has responsibilities and is held accountable for aiding in the completion of the assignment; therefore, success is dependent on the work of everyone in the group.
Cooperative learning reinforces listening to others and gives opportunity for immediate feedback and adjustment of thought. Promotes greater student-faculty and student-student interaction. Assist each other in understanding material/content. Permits opportunities to connect the content to real life. Builds self-esteem in students. Students help each other as discussion occurs. They are more likely to respond to the whole class after discussing thoughts with a partner or small group. Provides for improvement of social interaction skills. Encourages innovation in both teaching and student involvement.

  7. Cooperative learning is an organized and structured way to use small groups to enhance student learning and interdependence. Students are given a task, better known as an assignment, and they work together to accomplish this task. Each individual has responsibilities and is held accountable for aiding in the completion of the assignment; therefore, success is dependent on the work of everyone in the group.

In addition to learning from each other, students also learn how to work as part of a team and have others depend on them.

  9. I think the purpose of cooperative learning groups is to make each member a stronger individual in his or her right. Students learn together so that they can subsequently perform higher as individuals.
Because of the cooperative nature of this strategy, students strive for mutual benefit so that all group members gain from each other's efforts. The mindset here is that YOUR success benefits me and MY success benefits you.
Each team member realizes that they share a common fate. Collectively it becomes a matter of everyone sinking or swimming. Because no one wants to sink, cooperative learning activities are highly motivating.
Although success is not entirely guaranteed, the achievement of each individual participant is amplified by the team to which they belong. This, of course, make success a more likely outcome

  10. I believe that the term and concept of “group work” has evolved. Basically because students began to be more outspoken about how they felt. One student was stuck with doing most of the work. Because that student finds it easier to work by themselves, the other students take advantage, it is hard to meet outside of school, and so many other reasons. Some stopped giving group work and some students began asking teachers if they could work by themselves. The reality is that when we begin working for a living we find that we need the necessary skills to be able to work with a group of people. In order to be effective we need parameters and ideas to make all the different personalities and skills work together to be more effective, thus, cooperative learning is born. It is a way to balance group work. This article is a perfect example of how teachers have shared ideas of what has worked for them and how important it is to do things and know why you are doing it, the reasoning behind it, what you want to achieve as Mrs. Ligia has told us in class. I really like the ideas and I believe it gives group work a whole new dimension and the term Cooperative Learning fits perfectly because at the end of the day that is what we want our students to achieve.

  11. First we have to come up with a topic, and with what we want the kids to do cooperative work. Then we explain that topic and make sure that us as teachers and the students play our parts. Give the instructions to the students, and assign the groups into heterogeneous group, assign to each member of the group a role. Monitor the groups to see if everyone is doing their job, and evaluate the groups. Also using the management tips, like Noise control, getting the students attention, Answering questions, use of a timer and model instructions. In this activity we can make the students to interact with one another and make the class more active and I think it’s a good way to teach a topic and evaluate in a way the kids don’t go into a lot of pressure and make them have fun during the task in hand.

  12. In my opinion cooperative learning is much more effective than group work. Why? Well, during group work the natural leaders start taking action within every small detail in the project assigned and sometimes don't even let their other group members make decision or give opinions, so not all of the students are having an effective learning. Meanwhile, during cooperative learning, every student is assigned a different task and has the responsibility to share with everyone of the group members some of the things they have learned about the specific topic they are working on. This means that since they are all sharing different thoughts and ideas, they are learning from each other and helping each other understand the topic in a better, fun and interactive way.

  13. Cooperative Learning and group work are different things. Cooperative learning gives every student the same opportunity to express and learn meanwhile group work just the leader students take decisions and does most of the work while other don't even talk or learn at all. I think to have an authentic cooperative learning you must give clear instructions to all the groups, groups must be heterogeneous and even better if you choose the groups. Students must all have different tasks so they all work together and believe that all have the same equal opportunity of success. Teacher should also monitor groups to make sure everybody is communicating and interacting.

  14. Cooperative learning is not about how the work is divided into more than one! It gives students a chance to help them discover on a more realistic and parallel way to life; which is his/her strength. Not only to discover their own but, to appreciate and value others. This needs to happen under constant supervision, instructions must be clear and concise to have their attention focused on their ability to overcome every new challenge. I love that they have space for inquiry and even more how they get to challenge themselves more by having to share their opinion with their peers on a relaxed environment which makes it apparently easier since they don´t feel threatened by someone judging their answers but by not fearing to learn from mistakes.

  17. Cooperative Learning is a very useful technique that most teachers are using nowadays. its very effective because students that are fast learners can help slow learners. The teacher's role it to monitor and guide the process of every subject. Cooperative learning can also be used to help students to be more disciplined and organized. It can be used in classroom with big groups of students. Students can work effectively and enjoy at the same, because they are connecting as team. They are not competing but helping one another. Cooperative learning it challenging and useful.

  18. Cooperative Learning is a method used with students by different levels of ability. Cooperative Learning is "group work". Before groups are formed, it is very important to teach them skills of collaboration. A teacher should always go around the classroom to make sure all students are participating in their groups.
