Course description:
This is an intensive course designed to provide participants the opportunity to gain knowledge and competence in Pedagogy as the core element of the Educational Sciences. This course also seeks to help students develop the knowledge and skills necessary to critically examine current and past tendencies and pedagogical models. Students will analyze and evaluate teaching practices that are presumed to be conceptually sound, ethically responsible, and culturally responsive. A variety of online information and articles will be used as resources for the delivery of this course. Students will also contribute with their thoughts and expertise through an online blog.
Learning outcomes:
·       Reflect upon the term Pedagogy and its impact in education as teachers.
·       Explain the development in the history of education.
·       Develop competencies to identify and practice elements of a diversity of learning theories.
·       Learn the current pedagogical models and tendencies in education.

Attendance:

Attendance is required at every course meeting. According to the university´s attendance policies, for this course, the students are entitled to miss up to 8 hours. Please notify in advance of all necessary absences due to an illness or other legitimate reason. It is the student’s responsibility to consult with classmates or the professor about missed work .If the student contacts the instructor before the class, the information will be provided.  All communication should be addressed via e-mail to: ligiaguilar@gmail.com

The success of this course is directly related to the sense of community that we will develop in this classroom.  Participation is essential to this process.  Students are encouraged to share views and listen to those of others.  Debate and discussion are an important part of the learning process.  While there will be no doubt for disagreements, we expect the members of this community to challenge ideas in a manner that reflects respect, professionalism, and recognition of opposing viewpoints without attacking individuals.

Food and Drink: 

Feel free to bring food and drink to class.  Just be sure to dispose of it properly when you are finished.

Evaluation:
Participants will engage in a variety of evaluation exercises such as discussions, presentations, and reflections in class, all of which will be assessed and some of them will be graded.  Also, students will have at least three entries in a blog and submit an essay. The grading assigned to each activity will be negotiated with students.
